Product update: announcing our improved backup service for ColossusCloud's VPS cloud hosting service

Experience a faster, more flexible backup and restoration service for your Linux or Windows VPS.

We’ve been hard at work developing our cloud VPS services for our customers, and we’re finally ready to announce our improved backup service for ColossusCloud. It’s already available at all of our six data centers, and we couldn’t be more proud!

This is a project we’ve been developing to do reliable daily backups (or snapshots) of your virtual servers, so that your important data is always kept safe and sound. It replaces an aging system that was slower and less efficient, now giving you a much-improved experience and a wider set of options when backing up and restoring your data.

Here are some of the most exciting features of the new VPS backup system:

• Create incremental backups of a virtual server in minutes.

• Speedy restoration of a virtual server from a backup.

• Backups are stored in a completely separate cluster of servers, unrelated to Ceph or the hypervisors.

• Create new virtual servers from backups.

• Option to select a new region when creating a new virtual server from a backup.

• It is now based on commercial software.

We’re working to develop and expand the capability of our new backup system to meet the needs of our customers even better, and we’d be glad to hear any feedback you’ve got for us!

Customers can choose from two different backup plans which are available for a small fee:

• Plan 1 stores the most recent 4 days of backups, at a cost of only 20% of the base price of your virtual server (that is, the price for CPU, RAM and disk resources). So, if your virtual server is $5/month, then this plan costs only $1/month.

• Plan 2 stores the last 30 days of backups, at a cost of only 40% of the base price of your virtual server. This is highly recommended because, if for example, you accidentally delete critical data, and you don't notice for several days or weeks, this plan will allow you to get everything back into order quickly and minimize the impact on your business.

Be aware that the old backup plans are phased out, and if you had a plan with us you have been transitioned to at least the Phase 1 plan described above. For clients with very critical data, we highly recommend the Phase 2 option for better peace of mind.

Go ahead and choose the backup plan that works for you. Remember, your data is crucial to the success of your business, and it is never 100% safe unless you have a backup system you can rely on!
